Face Lift looks at the mask as both protection and performance, revealing the fragile space between who we appear to be and who we are beneath. The repeated sounds of screeches and bells form a rhythm that feels both calming and uneasy.

Echoing the act of lifting a mask at day’s end, the installation explores identity as something constantly shifting, a struggle between concealment and truth, surface and self.

generative subtitle installtion


Fragments of Hollywood film dialogue recombine into an unstable language organism. Subtitle files are processed through part-of-speech tagging, broken into modular sets of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Using simple sentence structures, an algorithm generates grammatically coherent yet contextually unmoored phrases. Text drifts across sculptural screens—looping, glitching, reshaping itself. The subtitle never fully translates.

Language behaves like slime mould: decentralised, adaptive, self-organising. Meaning is mimicked, misheard, almost grasped, then lost again.

miss word isn’t about fluency, but the act of wandering through almost-understanding.

G9 (Vietnamese slang, short for "Good Night") takes viewers on a nocturnal journey into the subconscious.

From the POV of a Vietnamese roadman biker, the piece explores the tension between freedom, rebellion, and self-judgment. As the biker (myself) rides through a surreal, neon-lit dreamscape, liberated fantasies collide with the shame of taboo desires, revealing the conflict between personal pleasure and societal expectations. Using glitchy, fragmented visuals, G9 exposes how desire is constantly undermined by internalised social norms, even in our most private, unconscious moments. Paradox of freedom: The more we seek liberation through fantasy, the more we are constrained by self-surveillance and judgment.

G9 is both a film and a dream helmet. Its black wings, made from ethically sourced crow feathers, shield the roadman as he rides through his subconscious. Together, film and helmet merge into a singular vision—a quest for freedom in a world where even our dreams are policed.

Imagine watching a 2-hour-long English-language movie without subtitles in your second language. How do you feel? Can’t relate? Good for you. Relatable? Well, I feel your struggle. As someone for whom English is a second language, this encourages me to go to the cinema less. I can speak and listen to English well, but the thought of missing some important moments because I can’t catch the words is discouraging. I am not deaf or hard of hearing, but my need for subtitles is somehow assumed to be a disability.


I made this work out of frustration. In a country as diverse as the UK, where millions of residents — immigrants, international students, long-term settlers — grew up speaking something other than English, why are subtitled screenings still the exception?



Confusion Fusion places Hollywood blockbuster subtitles over muted Vietnamese films. The subtitles — pulled from famous English-language films and remixed — become the sole narration, constantly shifting, generating infinite and absurd storylines. The Vietnamese film plays silently underneath, its original meaning inaccessible. When the subtitles become the cast, the film itself becomes the subtitles. Nothing makes sense. Or does it?

The whole work is muted. For once, the hearing audience is hard of hearing too.

An Impossible and Abandoned Grasp is a publication featuring essays on Kaori Oda’s  films for the occasion of the ICA’s retrospective weekend on her work by critics Emerson Goo, Nicolas Pedrero-Stezer, Nathan Geyer and interviews between Kaori Oda and Cici Peng. 

The envelope cover is 100% handmade with each being printed, cut and fold, punched.

Inspired by the dragon dance by Nhan Nghia Duong crew that I always saw growing up.

BiM and SPECIFIC present 𝒟𝒶𝓂𝓃 𝒮𝓌𝑒𝑒𝓉 𝒳𝐿 𝐻𝑜𝓊𝓈𝑒芳心公寓。.✿, a group show and hybrid performances event curated by y1cong and organized in collaboration with Loris, with support from Pallina. The featured artists explore the provocative power of images, video art, installations, and performances… all with playful and whimsical undertones.


Captivated by 𝒱ℐ𝒩𝒜𝒳𝒪𝒜's unique "cheesy internet aesthetic," Yicong initiated this collaborative project, reimagining the exhibition space as a life-sized dollhouse and requesting its visual translation. Taking the inspiration of the early day of Cyworld, myself and Blair remain with 𝒱ℐ𝒩𝒜𝒳𝒪𝒜's signature blend of glitter, roses, pixelation and cuteness overload, evoking the playful, sexy femininity. Just girly things!
